Reconstructions is a body of work that has been developing and growing with me throughout my entire academic career. This journey of work explores childhood memories of location, discovery, and home life. I utilize color in evocative ways to illustrate my experiences, whether they were good or bad. I’m interested in exploring human development from adolescence to adulthood, and I am searching for what the idea and term “home” means to me now at twenty two years old as opposed to when I was twelve. This development of adolescent ideas and memories has shown the lengths I've grown into my adult self and how much my life and ideas have changed. Playing with washes of oil paint and use of simple yet decisive mark making is what helps my work stand out. I feel that I am creating a physical archive of not only my past but a common ground that many of us recognize and can relate to each other on. The need for adventure and spontaneity shouldn’t vanish once we get older and move on so I feel my work heals that inner child’s system and shows its ok to see things differently and to just have fun no matter what the result is. There needs to be a basis on when to remove the stress on what we envision reality to be and its standards.
